Your Pythagorean square from your birth date

Lay your birth date out across a 3×3 matrix and read your character through the digits. The psychomatrix shows what is naturally strong in you and what you’ll need to develop.

How the square works

Nine cells form eight lines

A single cell speaks to one quality. But the digits aren’t placed at random: rows, columns and diagonals gather them into composite traits — the ones you can only see as a whole.

Rows

  • Drivetop row · 1·4·7

how firmly you set a goal and see it through.

  • Familymiddle row · 2·5·8

the pull toward home, a partner, caring for those close to you.

  • Stabilitybottom row · 3·6·9

whether you need a settled routine or are drawn to change.

Columns

  • Temperamentdiagonal · 3·5·7

the force of your feelings: from restraint to passion.

If you were born after 2000

Zeros in your date break nothing

A common worry for those born in the 2000s: won’t the zeros “zero out” the whole calculation? No. For anyone born after 2000 the second working number is found the same way — as the sum of the digits of the first. The third working number is taken as an absolute value, so no negatives appear and the square fills in by the usual rules.

That’s why our values for 2000s dates match those of most calculators. The approach rests on the “rule of lines” from the Aleksandrov school — an extension of the classic method, where the square is read not only cell by cell but also across composite rows, columns and diagonals.

Questions about the square

A quick guide to the method

It is a 3×3 numerology grid where the digits of your birth date and four working numbers fall into nine cells. Each cell governs a single quality — character, energy, logic, health and so on. The more times a digit lands in a cell, the stronger that quality is. The method is also known as the psychomatrix.

The first working number is the sum of all the digits in your birth date. The second is the sum of the digits of the first. The third subtracts twice the first non-zero digit of your birth day from the first. The fourth is the sum of the digits of the third. The digits of all four working numbers are added to the date digits and placed in the square as well.

An empty cell is a quality you weren't born with and one that shows up more through effort. It isn't a verdict: a character without ones or a memory without nines can still be developed, you simply have less support there than in the filled cells. Empty cells are read alongside their neighbours — a weak spot in one area is often balanced by strength in another.

The eight lines add up digits across rows, columns and diagonals to surface composite traits that no single cell shows. Rows speak to drive, family and stability; columns to self-esteem, money and talent; diagonals to spirituality and temperament. The more digits on a line, the more pronounced the trait.

The main worry is that the zeros in the date will 'cancel out' the reading. They don't. The method adds the date digits as they are, and the third working number is taken as an absolute value, so no negative results appear. That's why our values for dates in the 2000s match most other calculators — the square follows the same rules as it did for the last century.

Yes. 'Pythagorean Square' is the classic name for the method, while 'psychomatrix' is a later term introduced by followers of the Alexandrov school. The principle is identical: the digits of your birth date are laid out in a 3×3 matrix, then read by cells and by lines.

Personal reading

The numbers are in — now let's read them

The square shows strong and weak cells one by one. In a personal reading the numerologist reads them together with the six numbers of your profile — seeing where a strength drags a weakness along with it — and answers your questions about work, relationships and timing.
